Key Strategy Takeaways

  • Dawncore and Luden's Tempest lead the six-item comparison below, but pooled placement is not a controlled ranking for your board.
  • Use current Set 18 holders: older-set champion names are not valid recommendations for this patch.
  • Match the Artifact to an upgraded holder and the next fight before selecting it at an anvil.
  • The external item sample is dated October 5 and labelled Patch 18.3; TFTFans' local database remains a separate September 17 snapshot.

Best TFT Artifact items: start with the holder

Dawncore and Luden's Tempest have the strongest average placements among the six Artifacts compared below, but neither is automatically the best choice for your board. Choose an Artifact your upgraded units can use now, then compare the function it adds with the other anvil options.

This Set 18 guide was updated October 5, 2026. It replaces the older holder list with current-set examples and dated observations. It is not an exhaustive S-to-D ranking or a claim that any Artifact guarantees a top four.

Patch 18.3 Artifact comparison and holders

Source: TFT Codex item statistics, updated October 5 at 06:26 UTC. The page reports Diamond+ observations from the last 12 days and is labelled Patch 18.3. Item rows count a player board once, even when multiple copies are present.

ArtifactAverage placementGamesCommon holders in that sample
Dawncore3.6890,439Veigar, Soraka, Zyra
Luden's Tempest3.7660,189Veigar, Ahri, Kha'Zix
Eternal Pact4.0756,182Veigar, Ahri, Soraka
Manazane4.1267,378Veigar, Ahri, Zyra
Blighting Jewel4.1745,196Morgana, Cassiopeia, Zyra
Gold Collector4.3428,729Aphelios, Sivir, Draven

Lower average placement is better in the dataset, but these rows describe different holders and boards. They do not isolate the effect of swapping one Artifact for another. A lower average can also reflect the situations in which players choose the item. “Common holder” means observed use, not the single best possible champion.

Practical priority tiers for your anvil

First priority: useful immediately. A compatible Artifact on your upgraded carry or tank, with the rest of the board able to support it. This is the highest practical tier even if its pooled average is not first in a table.

Second priority: a realistic near-term transfer. You have a suitable temporary holder and a plausible route to the final unit without destroying economy. Include the gold and health needed for the transfer in the decision.

Last priority: hypothetical cap only. The Artifact looks attractive only after finding an expensive unit, changing several slots, or obtaining another rare item. That can be acceptable on a stable board, but it is a poor rescue plan when the next loss eliminates you.

These are board-dependent decision tiers, not invented statistical S/A/B ratings for the entire Artifact pool.

How to connect an Artifact to a Set 18 carry

Veigar and caster boards

If you are already building a Veigar carry, the table gives you several relevant candidates to inspect. Start with the Veigar build guide, which clearly labels its older Patch 18.2 board sample, and check the Artifact's current effect against your actual cast cycle.

The key test is not “can Veigar equip it?” It is whether that function is missing. If your frontline collapses before repeated spells, another damage or scaling item may be less useful than an option that fixes the board's survival problem. Keep ordinary item components flexible through the BiS guide.

Physical carries and Collector choices

Gold Collector appears on several physical carries in the dated sample. For a Draven plan, read the Draven / Elder Dragon guide and compare the Artifact with the items already held. Do not transfer a caster recommendation to a physical carry merely because its average placement is lower.

Riot's 18.3 notes reduced The Collector's AD from 40% to 35%, reduced Eternal Pact's mana on a tank cast from 15 to 10, and increased Statikk Shiv's base AP from 15% to 25%. Older screenshots can therefore misstate the current effect. Riot calls the item The Collector; the Codex comparison labels it Gold Collector.

Anvil decision checklist

  1. Name a holder before selecting. Prefer an upgraded unit that participates meaningfully in the next fight.
  2. Read the current card. Identify the condition or timing that produces value; an attractive name is not enough.
  3. Check the other two slots. Does the Artifact solve a missing function or duplicate one you already have?
  4. Watch the next matchup. Target access and fight duration can change the value of the same item.
  5. Price the pivot. Include new units, lost upgrades, and transfer costs before choosing an Artifact for a different composition.

If the board is stable, selecting for a higher cap can be reasonable. If it is unstable, usable power this round is often the safer objective. Neither rule is a substitute for checking the actual anvil options.

Artifacts, Radiant items, and craftable items

Do not combine their rankings. An Artifact anvil presents a different decision from a Radiant choice or combining two components. Use the Radiant item guide for that separate selection and the item matrix for recipes.

TFTFans' local item database remains a September 17 Patch 18.2 snapshot. The dated external comparison above does not update that database or turn it into a live stats tool. Verify changed tooltips in the client.

TFT Artifact tier list FAQ

Is Dawncore always the best Artifact?

No. It leads the six-item observed comparison, not every possible board or Artifact. Your holders, other items, frontline and remaining health determine whether it is usable.

Should I pivot because I found a strong Artifact?

Only after comparing the entire transition. A compatible temporary holder can preserve flexibility, while abandoning an upgraded board for an unhit carry can cost more than the item adds.

Does this table rank every Artifact?

No. It is a dated shortlist with sufficient samples and valid Set 18 holders. For other offered items, inspect the current card and apply the same holder-first checklist.

Why can different sites disagree?

Their patch windows, rank filters, item-count rules, sample sizes and champion mixes differ. Compare those settings before treating one table as proof that another is wrong.
