Standard Fast 8 Tempo
The premier strategy for 4-cost carries like Aphelios & Draven.
- Stage 2-1: Level 4 (streak early)
- Stage 2-5: Level 5 (save econ)
- Stage 3-2: Level 6 (maintain 50g)
- Stage 4-1: Level 7 (50g)
- Stage 4-2 / 4-5: Level 8 and roll down to 10-20g to hit 2-star 4-costs.
1 & 2 Cost Reroll
For comps like Poppy/Caitlyn (Nine Lives) or Kayn/Yasuo (Alter Ego).
- Stage 2: Never buy XP; maximize loss streak gold.
- Stage 3-1: Roll down to 30g at Level 4 for 1-costs.
- Stage 3-2: Level to 6 for 2-costs, then slow roll above 50g.
- Stage 4-1+: Once 3-star is hit, push levels to complete synergies.
Fast 9 Legendary Flex
High econ snowball for 5-cost titans like Galio, Sett, and Karma.
- Stage 2 & 3: Win streak aggressively.
- Stage 4-2: Level 8 with 50g+ without rolling.
- Stage 5-2: Level 9 with 40-50g to roll for 2-star 5-cost legendaries.

What Level Should You Roll at in TFT?
Roll where your target unit has a strong shop rate, but do not treat the highest percentage as an automatic command. Your health, number of copies, contested units, board strength, and gold left after the roll determine whether the attempt is actually profitable.
Shop odds show which cost appears in each slot; the shared champion pool controls how many copies of a specific unit remain. Read the Set 18 champion pool size guide before committing to a contested reroll.
| Target | First level to check | Roll when | Push levels when |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-cost 3-star | Level 4 or 5 | You have many copies and a board that spikes from the hit | The unit is contested or missing it costs too much health |
| 2-cost 3-star | Level 6 | The carry, frontline, and supporting pairs all benefit from the shops | You need an extra trait slot or stronger higher-cost frontline |
| 3-cost 3-star | Level 7 | You are close enough that a controlled roll can finish the board | The lobby is holding copies or Level 8 adds a necessary unit |
| 4-cost carry | Level 8 | Your board needs a real carry or tank upgrade immediately | You are healthy, stable, and can preserve gold for Level 9 |
| 5-cost cap | Level 9+ | Your board is stable enough to convert expensive shops | Do not push if reaching the level leaves no gold to roll |
Roll now when three signals agree
- Missing upgrades are costing real health.
- Your target cost has a useful shop rate at the current level.
- Several shop outcomes improve the board, not only one perfect unit.
Push XP when the roll has poor conversion
- The board is stable enough to survive another interval.
- An extra slot completes a trait or adds meaningful utility.
- Your target is contested and higher-cost alternatives are more realistic.
Current Leveling Cost Reference
Riot reduced Level 7-to-8 to 56 XP in Patch 18.2. The September 14 mid-patch update restored Level 8-to-9 and Level 9-to-10 to 68 XP. Patch 18.3 lists no XP-curve changes, so these remain the latest published costs as of the current patch.

Does each shop slot use the same odds?
Yes. A shop shows five slots, and each slot rolls a unit-cost tier from the distribution for your current level before selecting an available champion from the shared pool.
Do contested units change the percentages in the table?
The cost-tier percentages stay the same, but fewer remaining copies make it harder to hit the specific champion after that tier is selected.
Should I always keep 50 gold before rolling?
No. Interest is valuable only while you can afford the health loss. Roll below 50 when immediate upgrades preserve enough health or tempo to create more future value than the lost interest.
